Flashback of the Week

We just got back from spending 5 nights camping on the Frio! This was Ava's 2nd trip. Until I can get my act together and upload all the pictures, and video, from this year's trip here is a flashback to Ava's first time on the Frio River.

16 Months Old

Dear Ava Marie,

You are 16 months old now! Finding time to write you these letters on your "month birthday" is becoming harder and harder since you are awake most of the day now and you are constantly on the move. Each month seems to go by faster and faster. I don't want you to grow up so fast! Here is what you have been up to this month:

*You are officially taking 1 nap a day now. Love it and hate it at the same time! As long as you allow me 10 minutes to get ready in the morning we usually try and get out of the house before your nap time so we dont get too bored. Mommy looks like a ragamuffin these days since I can't shower till you nap at 12! Oh well, such is the life of a mommy.

*You have about 11 teeth....I think! It is hard to get a good look in your mouth but you have gotten at least three of your mollars including 4 teeth on top and 4 on bottom. You HATE having your teeth brushed. This could be a problem.

(Don't let this picture fool you. We hardly ever sit still like this to read but I managed to take a picture in the 30 seconds she stayed on the chair to read)

*You are talking up a storm these days. You are trying to say more and more words and I love how they sound coming from you.

*Although I still consider you to be a good eater you are becoming a little more picky with what you eat. You like condiments on your food now such as ketchup on your chicken nuggets and fish sticks and ranch dressing on your cucumbers. Whatever keeps you eating!

*Some of your favorite things to do this month are walk around in mommy's shoes, sweep the floor, find bugs, climbing on the play equipment at the park, and sliding.

*Another new thing that you have started doing this month is singing! You have the most beautiful and sweetest little singing voice. You love to sing the "Halleluiah" and "Holy" parts of your praise baby songs. I have also heard you attempt to sing many other familiar songs to you. Hearing you sing from the back seat of the car melts my heart!

*Well, I am sad to say that you had your first time out this month. You seemed confused and unhappy that I was making you sit by the wall but I didn't expect you to get it the first time. You haven't been in time out since but I have a feeling that we might be doing that more often now that you are becoming older and testing your boundaries and mommy's authority. You are still my sweetheart though.

*I thought "your firsts" were over but you did get your 1st pedicure by mommy! You saw me painting my toes and sat down beside me and put your feet in my lap so I painted yours too. You were pretty squirmy but they still look cute. You were so proud to show daddy your red toes like mommy's.

Happy 16 months old precious girl! From the words of one of your favorite books "I love you as the thirsty duck loves a sudden shower". :)
Hugs and Kisses,

Moms Only Get Away Weekend

This past weekend I had the pleasure of going away for my first girls trip since having Ava. Since Ava never took the bottle I was never able to stray far from her while I was nursing. I love my child with all my heart but I think every mom needs a little break and a chance to spend some time alone with friends. I was way overdue for something like this! Mikey was encouraging and excited for me to have some time away so that felt nice knowing that he was ok with me leaving. Gigi came to stay with Ava and Mikey to spend a little more one on one time with her son and granddaughter and from what I hear they had just as much fun as I did! It was a great weekend for all! My compadres for the girls trip were some of my closest friends Amy, Rebekah, and Jenny. We stayed in Austin and spent most of our days just talking, relaxing, and eating some good food! It was so nice to be able to relax and not have to worry about feeding, changing diapers, or chasing our children around. Another bonus to the weekend was I got to see two of my other best friends, Cassie and Paige. Jenny and I met Cassie at Paige's little boy's 1st birthday party in Seguin. Ray was so cute at his party and I am glad I got to be there for his special day. I wish I got to visit with Paige longer but I will see them again real soon. I had the best weekend and feel so refreshed. I missed Ava and Mikey like crazy but the fact that they were having so much fun together made the trip more enjoyable.

Waiting for our table at Moonshine. Yummy!!

Before heading home we stopped off at the Round Rock outlets and met up with Cassie. We bought matching "friend" shirts at Gap. haha, cheesy but fun!

Ava was already asleep for the night by the time I got home on Sunday so I was very sad about that but when I walked in the door I was greeted by a sweet husband who had cleaned the entire house before I got there and made me this sign hung in the kitchen. You don't get much sweeter or thoughtful than that!? I'm a lucky girl.

When I went to get Ava out of her crib on Monday morning she greeted with me a big hug and she put her head on my shoulder for a long time. It was just what I wanted.

New Words

About a week after Ava turned 15 months she added about 5 new words to her vocabulary. She said a lot of new words for the first time in New York and ever since she has been attempting to say a lot of words. I knew there would be a day when all of a sudden she just decided she was going to start talking. Aside from the ones listed in her 15 month post she can now attempt to say "uh oh", "bu bye", "butterfly", "bubbles", "Alli", "hiiii" in a real high sweet voice as we walk in the door to see Macy, and "kitty".

I tried to get her to show off her new words for the camera but as always she became distracted so we only got a few.

Piggy Tailed Cutie

Pigtails on Ava just make me want to squeeze her! She is so stinkin cute as she bops around the house in them. I remember a card I bought one time had a little girl with pigtails and the inside of the card said "Pigtails, they are like a party for your head! Wear the pigtails". haha

We like having parties on our head!

4th of July

Our 4th of July 2010 was spent in The Woodlands with Ava's Papa and Gramielle. Last year we spent the 4th with them as well. I am amazed at how much Ava has changed since then. It's almost like I have forgotten what she was like to be that small (and that still!). After seeing the video at the end of the post I was reminded just how bad Ava's torticollis was too. Wow! Mikey and I had no idea it was that bad because to us that was normal. We didnt know any different and by then Leakhena was working with Ava on a regular basis so we never worried about her. I am glad that God gave us such peace about it and put Leakhena in our lives to help Ava. Ava has never been held back by her torticollis or tight muscle tone and today you can barely tell that she even had either one! After looking back at this post it gave me the idea to start a "Flashback Post of the Week" every once in awhile so that the grandparents and myself can remember what Ava was like as a baby and relive some of those special baby moments. They go by in a blink!

Anyways, back to our 4th of July weekend! Geez, I got majorly sidetracked there! We had a relaxing weekend in The Woodlands and enjoyed visiting with Papa, Gramielle, and even Jenny and Bekah! They stopped by for a visit and we had a fun time playing in the pool with the girls.

We went to the annual 4th of July parade. It was HU-MID!!! Very uncomfortable outside but we still had a good time.

Ava watching the parade from her stroller

These corks that P & G collect were a big hit with Ava. Seriously, who needs toys?

This is the hair do Ava has been sporting lately. Her hair is growing so fast and getting so long but is still at an awkward length. I can't wait for her to have a cute little bob all one length!

We did lots of swimming and walking around P&G's pool

Ava is signing "all done" and Bekah is signing "more". Ava wasnt so interested in the pizza but Bekah kept asking for more. Too cute!
